Bilateral mastectomy

Wow, I'm home 24hours after my surgery! I'm feeling good, not much pain, but then again I'm keeping on top of it with the drugs they gave me. I have 2 drains in and find that to be the worst part at the moment. I feel so bare and basic. Like a mannequin. It's bizarre to look down and not see my d cups? I have nothing where my boobs used to be and that's freaky. I have no hair and no boobs, I'm not feeling so feminine right now but that's ok, this is all temporary. My hubby loves me, my kids love me and my family loves me. I'm still me on the inside and I'm still here so gotta be happy with that

  • Hi Deanne, I agree, my relationship with my husband is so much stronger and better than ever before. What we lack in the bedroom at the moment we make up for in our love and commitment to each other! And I too feel like I am changing for the better, don't sweat the small stuff I say. I'm lucky to be here and everyday, even the crappy ones, are a blessing! thanks for your message Sam x
  • Thanks for your message Robyn. My drains came out today, and I feel (literally) like a new woman, oh how I loathed those things. If I've learned anything on my "journey" it's that life is short and I'm not wasting anytime dwelling on things I cannot change. So I look like an alien at the moment without hair and breasts, so what? Eventually I will look a bit like the old me again... There are people out there who are so much worse off than me. It also helps to have a glass of wine every now and then too ha ha Sam x
  • Hi sharl, Thanks for your reply, I just had the nurse come out and remove both drains WOO HOO! Now I feel much better! I think they bothered me more than the fact that I have no boobs haha. How's the irony in this....I was a 12b after having 3 kids, then paid $15,000 to go to a 12d in oct last year to be diagnosed in June and having them off on Thursday! Unbelievable! I think without the boobs, it makes me look more petite, so I'm not overly disappointed lol. I would like a recon in the future but at the moment the thought of more surgery makes me cringe, so I'll just play it all by ear I guess. Glad to hear you're not missing your dd's too much :) Sam
  • That is so true, Sam. I haven't had a left boob or proper hair for 7 months now but I know that I am better off than some 'super model' with relationship issues. My husband and I have grown closer than ever and I have been supported all the way by my family and friends. I feel that I am actually a better, more caring person myself because of all that has happened. One day I will look like me again, only I'll be better on the inside. Rest up and continue along the road to the new you. Xxoo Deanne
