Thanks so much for the post. It has given me a lot to think about, and as with any big decision, it will be one of many sources of information I will use.
I was particularly struck by your reference to losing not just breasts, but nipples, a fact which I had not even twigged to until after my mastectomy. Some facts just seem to get obliterated by the term "breast" cancer.
I also wonder how intertwined external and internal concepts of beauty are for women, and about our value as "seen" objects, and how this relates to why we chose certain ways of presenting ourselves to the outside world.
