back to theatre for necrotic debridement....bugger!!!
Arghhh....need to have a big fat whinge and sook :(:(:(
So this Thursday I am back to theatre for removal of dead tissue at my incision site on right breast - which will be 1 day shy of 4weeks post op bilateral mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with implants......
Had been feeling a tad off and green for a few days late last week - a bit sweaty and achy, then noticed on mother's day some oozing through the dressing (and OMG - the smell was revolting!!) and then the penny dropped.....so off the after hours medical centre. Dr was lovey and said it was an infection - cleaned me up, re-dressed it, script for antibiotics etc. She also said the nipple reconstruction had not survived.
I saw my PS yesterday who said no infection - but definitely necrotic tissue which has to be removed. She also said the nipple will be ok - it was just a thick scab that came off.......she said she will clean it all up in theatre and whack me full of more anti-biotics...but it should only be a very quick procedure and I will be home that night (as long as the anaesthetic goes fine)....
Just feeling really disappointed by this set back......as the PS said I would be back to square one in terms of the healing for that site.......I hope she is wrong.......
Have others been through this too?? would love to hear from you....I know in the big scheme of things that this is only a little hiccup, but I am just a bit cranky with it all today xx thanks for listening to my have a rant (my poor hubby copped the tears and the tantrum last night!!!) xxxx

Paula xxxx - phew...got great news last Friday from the oncologist......tamoxafen is my ongoing treatment....... eased back into work today which went better than I thought.......and the boobs are healing up nicely.......; finally feeling like things are on the up!!!!
thank you @Unicornkisses .... I absolutely agree - it is such an emotional rollercoaster ride indeed!!
but I am learning to just take one day at a time.......

It almost feels like tempting fate to feel excited or even just pleased about an outcome, lest we are plunged back into disappointment and worry.

the debridement procedure went well last week - although it was a long day with admission at 11.30 and we got "out" at 7pm.......
I felt great the next day - was up bright and early and surprised by the lack of pain (a bit of a sharp sting at times along the incision line) but otherwise good. I even was out at my local coffee shop at 9.30 the next morning catching up with a few friends....
then sunday I crashed - felt so tired and not well.....got the most awful night sweats blah blah blah and on Monday my right breast was horribly red (but not any warmer than the left), tight and painful......so back to the PS on Tuesday for review. She felt it was healing well, no infection, but definitely irritated from where she flushed out around the implant with betadine and saline in theatre.......she noted that I had been on the same antibiotics for the last 3 courses, so felt it was time to mix it up a little......personally I was not a happy camper walking away with a script for my 5th course of antibiotics in 5 weeks, but sucked it up and put my trust in my dr.......and bought some more inner health plus, some voltaren anti-inflammatory tablets and some mega vitamin C +zinc tabs !!!
by Thursday night I felt soooooo much better......no more night sweats, sleeping better and waking earlier (as in before 10 am!!). Again today - I felt a little more brighter and had a little more energy - and not feeling sick.....woo hoo!!! fingers crossed it stays this way :)
So back to PS for another review next Monday, and then I finally get to see the oncologist next Friday , which takes me to 6 weeks post op.....I can't believe how fast that time has gone now....... once again I say thank you to this wonderful community - being able to share my worries, concerns, frustrations and tears with others who really understand has been the best medicine of all xxxx

- @gingerninja Sorry to hear of your hiccup, you may be surprised as youre already in the healing process, so hopefully you'll bounce back much better. I had a Mastectomy/diep flap recon 11 weeks ago and I TOO have about a 2 inch long 1 inch wide fat necrosis towards the cleavage!!! its hard as and bloody hurts! though the PS is not in a hurry to take it out and is going to wait til I have the revision and do it all then, he'll do the fat graft again from tummy, hips to fill it. So frustrating as the rest of the boob is fine!!! Quick recovery to you! xo Melinda
