Back in Form

Thanks for forming this group.  My breast cancer trip has been extensively documented at bronwynplusbreasts.blogspot.com with a real-time account of my experiences (now with 25000 page views).  I do still laugh at that URL as nowadays it really should be bronwynMINUSbreasts.  Diagnosed  September 2011 culminating in double mastectomy January this year.

Apart from a few days in ICU after my last chemo, all in all things have gone fairly smoothly.

I opted not to have a reconstruction and have embraced my scars, in keeping with my personal phillsophy of self acceptance.

Today my younger sister is at the Royal Brisbane for a double mastectomy.  Exaclty one year after my diagosis, she was given the same bad news.  We suspect we have the BRCA1 gene.  (She's to have a simultaneous reconstruction).

What can one do but rally on!  :-)

  • Hi All, I was dx in Feb 09 with multifocal (2cm and 1.5cm) node pos, triple pos BC at 40, I was fit, healthy with no family history, I had a WLE and node clearance a week after a biopsy, started chemo 3 weeks after surgery. I did ACTH, rads, no hormone treatments for me due to osteoporosis from chemo induced menopause for 2 yrs, did 4 infusions of Zometa for my bone density. I Have been premenopausal again for 2 years, so hoping to see an improvement in my bone density when I have a Dexa scan later in the year. I went back to work full-time to a demanding job with lots of travel and long hours as soon as my Rad finished, I also have young children and no family in Brisbane for a helping hand. Thinking back not sure how i did it as i was exhausted and still having herceptin every 3 weeks, but i was determined to get back to work ASAP. I do feel fortunate not to suffer any long term SE's from treatment and am just as fit and healthy as I was when dx. Won't be able to attend the forum due to work commitments, hope you all enjoy the day. Jacqui
