Unfortunately I am having a mastectomy this Friday after disappointing results from the pathology. So the past two weeks I have been healing and this week coming to grips that I have to do it all again. Nothing like standing in front of the mirror saying good bye to your boob! Nervous as but just taking one day at a time.

Why not take a photo of your boobs? They are yours so why not? I keep photos of my friends and animals who are not with me anymore. Go through the grieving process if you need to. I have not had a mastecomy but most of my friends have. My boobs just look like a crossword puzzle and my left breast "hangs out" under my left armpit most of the time!!!! If bc comes back into my life - and it isn't because "I AM FREE OF CANCER" both of my "girls" will be going on a "long-term holiday".. Yes just take one day at a time and very soon you will be HEALED AND HEALTHY!!!!!XLeonie

hi mouse, yes, one day at a time is all you can do. it is ok to be nervous, but try and find some " calm " to each day, if only for a short time. yes, i agree with leonie, take the time to grieve for the loss of your breast. some seem to deal with it more easily than others, but i think we all, at some point feel the loss of our old life, and learning to adapt to the new. i can only imagine how hard it would be to go back again and have a mastectomy, after recent lumpectomy. will you have chemotherapy, radiation hormone therapy? will you have a reconstruction? i had a lumpectomy, but i did grieve the loss of my breasts as they were. i am Ok with it now, but it did take time. i figured they had to do something to get rid of the BC. i hope you have some people to fall back on for support, emotionally and physically at this time. hope friday goes ok..kathy.

Hugs Mouse, I was talking to my 'girls' as I waited in the fitting room to try on new (post-surgery) bras at DJs yesterday. Don't know how I'd feel if one or both had to go.... but they are so floppy now (recent rapid weight loss!) that I could almost tie em in a bow... Just wondering, there are people who do belly casts of pregnant bellies - I wonder if anyone does boob casts??? LOL but serious too! Hi Mouse, My sister suggested I should take a photo of my boobs before I had a mastectomy last December. I had a lumpectomy first, but like you the pathology wasn't great so more surgery was required. I stood infront of the mirror and took a photo, of my lopsided boobs. Trouble was, that it was on the camera for anyone to see, and of course the kids pick up your camera and so do others, so after a month of worrying about who might get an unexpected eye full, I deleted the photo. I'm having the other breast off next Wednesday, and I'm thinking about doing a photo again, but I probably won't as one boob and a mastectomy scar doesn't look too good, and I won't want others to see it. If they did, I'm sure they would wonder why I felt the need to remind myself of how it all looked. I'm looking forward to the start of reconstruction at the same time. I hope everything goes well for you on Friday. Does having the mastectomy mean you won't now need radiotherapy? I was able to avoid radiotherapy by having a mastectomy, but the Dr wouldn't give me a 100% guarrantee of this till after the latest pathology was back after the mastectomy. Its so lovely having your support. Home from hospital now and feeling ok, still having district nursing coming in and back to hospital on Friday for checkup and chemo schedule.eeek. How is your journey going?

Home from Hospital and feeling ok. All went well and coming to terms with my new look. Getting great care from hospital and home so cant complain. Just trying to get better so a little walking and lots of rest. I really appreciate the support. How is your journey going?

I am so sad for you, i am really feeling your pain and sorrow today. I wish i could really help. I still am counting my blessings that i still have mine at the moment.

I wish you all the comfort and best wishes for the next couple of weeks. You will get through it and come out stronger on the other side. I am so sorry Mouse, keep your head up high, we will be thinking of you.
