Back Again

Well I feel pretty ashamed that I joined then abandoned - have finally jumped backed on, apologies to those people who sent msgs years ago with no return from me.

I wanted to forget everything pink and cancer - but I'm learning this is with me forever.

I'm about to see a gyno specialist to book in the ovaries/tubes out, anyone had this done? Would love some info, recovery etc.

Our baby days are over and even though there wasn't light at the end of the tunnel, I'm still here, so that's something.

Looking forward to reading about others experiences with preventative surgery for ovarian cancer.

    Hi Kirsty Thanks for bringing up this topic. I'm premenopausal and off to see the gynae march 25 re mine as well. Only had my mastectomy November last year and also want to try and forget about it all but we can't unfortunately. I've made the appointment now so will go and see what he says. I kind of feel its inevitable and I just have to have them removed. My sister had hers removed a few years ago and she has told me that at first she was emotional about the idea of it but it but says it was actually no big deal at all and hasn't had any real effect on her.     Hi Kirsty, I was diagnosed with BC last year and did 6rounds of TAC chemo and bilateral mastectomy in dec. waiting for recon to start in June. I am brca1 with a long family history, so am opting for the oopherectomy. I'm 31 and have had my 3 babies. I'm on tamoxifen and have been having menopausal symptoms etc so might as well just go for it, I'd hate to think the b**tard may come back!!! Just eliminating my chances I guess.

    I had my tubes and ovaries removed in November last year. I had really wanted to postpone this for a year but my doctors all agreed it needed to be done now.

    So off I went, it was keyhole surgery with no issues. Because i had a major organ removed a few moenths before they kept me in hospital a few days but really I had no issues.

    There was some minor pain, but nothing compared to other things I had been through, no emotional issues, but I was fully menopausal.

    I had a couple of weeks off work after the surgery and just took care, bending, reaching and carry heavy things.

    The good thing was when I got my pathology results I had cysts in both ovaries and one tube that may have caused me some issues down the track, so I was pleased I took the doctors advice.

    So for me it was a positive outcome and really I had no emotional attachment to my ovaries at all.

    Hi Kirsty

    I had my ovaries and tubes out through keyhole surgery. Stayed overnight in hospital, I had some wind pain in my shoulder the day after, which is quite common. Was a bit tender in tummy for a few days, but not bad enough to stop me from doing anything. I drove after 48 hours.

    I had my ovaries out by keyhole too.  Overnight stay, bit sore for a couple of weeks but recovered quite quickly.  Good luck x
