Associated cancer

As I had a unilateral mastectomy last week and meet with tthe surgeon on Friday I am wondering what checks/scans I need to have done for associated cancer. I have already had an abdomen and pelvic MRI and chest xray. Awaiting a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I am on blood thinners so these may take awhile to get done. Are thre other more thorough checks I need to request eg bone scan etc.

  • Thanks Mona, I am interested in this calmer approach.

  • i went private with my surgeon and public with my radiation and no other tests requested, ive seen my oncologist and asked about these tests as 'everyone' asked me --and appts 3-4 x a year with physical check ups --he is quite into best practice so showed me research paper that says scans, blood tests are overused

my surgeon is saying mammagrams and ultrasounds once a year and he agrees with that

PM Cancer unit where i had radiation done also didnt push all the bone scans etc and this approach suits me

  • Thanks Deanne, you are right. I must keep myself busy with pleasant distractions. Have a good day!

  • Depending on your pathology your surgeon or oncologist may require you to have a bone scan. Not everyone has them but my surgeon had me have a CT scan and bone scan. Try not to worry, you can ask these questions when you get your results on Friday. Keep busy with something pleasant to distract yourself. Take care. Deanne xxx
