Hi everyone,
Sixteen years ago I was diagnosed with DCIS which was operated on removing a third of my breast, no nodes affected or removed. I had radiation for 5 weeks and hence check ups every year. I was not put on anything else.
This year on the exact same day I had previously been diagnosed, I was told my nipple had altered to the extent it required a biopsy, which indicated grade 11 invasive tumour. Have now had mastectomy and heaps of tests etc and will begin doxectal chemo along with herceptin followed by tamoxifen when the first two are finished.
This recent cancer was very rare started as Pagetts disease behind the nipple but began to invade other areas. Radiation all those years ago could have started it, but no proof. Just from my experience, maybe if I had been given tamoxifen after the DCIS I might not have had any more, but no proof. I would ask questions and see what others feel, it might be worth taking a preventative in advance, as I will now be doing myself..... Good luck
