Aromasin - Exemestane

I am to start taking aromasin after I finish radiation this month. Inquisitive to see what the pills look like .
I get home only to realise it's exemestane !! This is all new to me and from what google says exemestane is the generic brand . I don't like generic brands and would like to be asked if I preferred the generic
  • Hi @Dandelion
Yes, that's  a generic brand in your photo. It will have the exact same amount of exemestane in it. I just really don't want to have the brands changed from script to script.
  • Yes I agree that generic brands can be confusing.  My husband is on quite a few tablets for blood pressure and if given the generic brand the names and colors of the pills are so different they can be very confusing. I am also on a tablet for reflux  and so often I have to take a generic brand because the pharmacy tells me they are out of stock of the original brand. Each time I get a different brand name and the last lot had a bitter taste. Makes you wonder what you are getting. I read the ingredients and I know it is the same, just confusing.
  • I'm going to go back to pharmacist and return and ask for whats on my script aromasin- exemestane?
    Is that correct .
omg I'm confused just a little lol
  • Thanks @lrb_03,
    nice essay lol
so your saying Iv been given the generic brand  APo - exemestane ? and if it's called aromasin - exemestane then that is the original
  • My experience with a generic brand, as a result of my preferred brand being unavailable, was less than pleasant.  And yes it would seem generic brands doesn't necessarily mean a reduced price.  Whenever I head into the Pharmacy for script renewal I give plenty of notice so that they can source my preferred brand.  This is me that only took the odd Panadol before all this started!  Now that is something I do struggle with however my sensible self says get over yourself, it is for your benefit!
  • Exemestane is the base drug name. Aromasin was the original brand, and all others are generic brands. It can make you feel a bit queasy, so taking it with food can help prevent that. Generics are meant to have identical amounts of the base medication but sometimes will have slight differences in the binding agents, & other components.  For this reason with my "important" medications, like my exemestane, I insist on not having generics. Often pharmacies will change the generic brands depending on what they can get for the best price for them. The government keeps trying to tell us that we'll pay less for generics, but generally, you're still paying the PBS price of $37.70, regardless. I don't like the switching of brands. One of my "less important" medications recently the pharmacy had a change in their generic. I don't think it's any less effective, but it has a bitter taste that the other brand never had.
After that essay, I hope I've been some help.
    Take care
    Lyn
  • Why doesn't all my post save grr!!!
Is there a difference and is it necessary to have after a meal as pharmacist mentioned . Thanks
