Arm movement after axillary clearance

It has been 5 weeks since my bilateral mastectomy and axillary clearance.  I have been diligent with the given exercises  post op and exercises by the physiotherapist. Apparently I developed cording so cannot raised my arm fully above my head. Still aches and tight although it has improved much.

Like to know experiences of others.

Cis

  • Thanks Mich. I did have the physiotherapist massage it for me but it is still there. Maybe I am just too impatient for it to go away. Just wondered how how long it will take for it to go away. What is your experience?

  • Hey Cis

I also had cording following axillary clearance which I was able to massage out in the shower under the warm water.  It is not always possible for you to move this yourself.  There should be a physiotherapist as part of your medical team following your surgery.  If you had a breast nurse contact her and she may be able to put you in contact.

I don't suggest you leave it in the hope it will go away.  Sometimes it just needs and expert to budge it for you.

Good luck with this, lots of luv, Mich xoxoxoxo
