Arimidex??? Pros and cons please!

Tomorrow brings my 11th "Taxol" with next Thursday being a big celebration for my 12th and final dose.

After 4 rounds of "AC" was looking forward to "Taxol" thinking side effects would be kinder. Bone aches are worse. Have heard that "Arimidex" also has a tendency for the same issue.

Can anyone provide me with their experience of taking it as I am starting in early December.

Cheers....Kim

  • I have been on Arimidex for about 18 months. I have two consistent side effects...joint pain and bone pain. Some mornings I'm like a 90 yo getting out of bed but once I'm warmed up it's ok! Panadol osteo is my saviour as is exercise. I have other side effects but they come and go. Like BC it's different for everyone but talking to your GP and medical team always helps. The last few visits to my GP have resulted in him saying its a side effect of the Arimidex. I actually find this comforting because it then isn't something else to deal with! Good luck and stay positive.
  • Hilary...thanks for reply and am keen to know of your progress especially side effects. My last Chemo at 9.30am today...yippppeeee,

  • Hi, I started taking Arimidex this week, all good so far but will let you know... fingers crossed  . Hilary

  • Hi Kim,

I found the AC worse than Taxol, so far. I'm having number 3 out of 12  tomorrow of Taxol/Herceptin combo and so far it's been fine. Just usual tiredness and dry mouth but only bone ache after the first. I'm having radio after this then onto Tamoxifen not Arimidex.

Good luck with your treatment and will keep you posted if things change.

  • Hi Kim

My experience has been the same as yours with Taxol, the bone aches and watery eyes are so annoying. I had very few side effects on AC and usually felt pretty good by about day 4 or 5. I have my number 11 Taxol on Friday and number 12 next week. I start radiation on December 1 and Arimidex then as well or after radiation. I am part of a study where some people will start Arimidex with radiation and some at the end of radiation, I find out which one I am doing when I go for radiation. I also would be interested to hear from people about side effects of Arimidex.
