Arimidex brand now has a $5 surcharge on top of PBS fee!

I went to top up all our meds today and spotted that I’d  been charged for 3 products, instead of two ... I queried the pharmacist and she looked and said .... “Looks like they’ve put a surcharge on it!”  Yep - they’d added $5 to the scheduled PBS fee.

So I’m going with a different brand for now .... Apotex  (APO) Anastrozole.

Has anyone else had this happen to them yet? Double check your next script fee.

Fingers crossed the coating doesn’t give me bad side effects!

  • Hi @arpie
I actually bought mine at Chemist Warehouse, so it’s definitely increased there too. Here’s pics of it:
  • My letrozeole femera was purchased from chemist warehouse.  I might try and speak with a different pharmacist when  I'm down the street next.
  • We hit out limit in July this year for prescriptions. Hubby is on heaps of heart meds, and I'm on a bucket load too, so aside from my one pain medication, which is not covered and costs $33.99 for 50 tabs (I take one at night), and my calcium and Vit D, our meds are free for five months...I count my blessings where I find them...
  • VERY annoying @FLClover .... taking advantage of women with BC.  Maybe we should bombard Anastrozole with emails, complaining about the price rise!

Can you put a pic up of the Red pack Arimidex @FLClover ?  I’ve tossed all mine!  Is there any info on the manufacturer on the pack? For email info?

interesting .... Chemist Warehouse hasn’t increased the price ... yet ... But we don’t have one locally so the postage would make it the same as I don’t think you can order more than one.

But they have FREE SHIPPING for orders more than $50 ... so see what other bargains you can get (ask neighbours and friends) and get a bigger delivery for free!

if anyone has CW nearby, it would be worth getting it from them!

    Superpharmacy and pharmacyonline too.
  • Yes, I bought my monthly Arimidex about 3 days ago and I noticed they charged me more, 10.60 instead of 5.60. I told the cashier and he said o probably got the generic brand before. I said no, I got this exact same one. He double checked, and yep, the price was 10.60 but he had no idea why 🙄. I got it anyway and left there feeling a bit pissed off. No one knows anything
  • My hubby has a few medical issues and is on a lot of  medication.  It's nice to actually get something.  We usually get the fee ones in December for one month.!!  I wonder if the fee is govt changes we never seem to here about until I get to the register.
  • Good for you @Locksley ... I thought I was close .... but still haven’t hit it. Seems there are 2 limits - the medical one (Drs etc) and the Medicinal one (scripts) and I/we are close to reaching both.

Arimidex was always just the standard PBS fee $5.80 until 4 weeks ago x I’ve been using it for 3 years now.  It is Anastrozole who has whacked on the fee, apparently!  Maybe it is the favoured brand and they want to cash in on it?
  • We have reached the limit where scripts are now free for pbs ones.  I was still charged $5 for femera letrozeole and chemist said this is not.covered because it's not a generic brand.
