Arimidex / oestrogen

Hello ladies, I've recently had my ovaries removed and am now in discussion with oncology regards taking arimidex. Wondering if anyone has any experience or insight to share. Also, would be interested in ways you have reduced oestrogen. Thanks kindly. Enjoy... Karen x

  • Hello Viv, Thanks. I've been on tamoxifen and recently zoladex which put me in a menopausal phase. It's feels a drag to be going on another medication, after my surgery 4 weeks ago. It is interesting how our bodies take to adjust or not adjust to all this medication. Thanks again. Decisions to make. Enjoy karen

  • Hi Karen,

I was on Tamoxifen first, only for 4 months.  Then had a total hysterectomy with ooperectomy and then started on Arimidex.

I personally think I would have been better staying on Tamoxifen for a while longer whilst the body adjusted to lack of oestrogen.  I had sever side effects from Arimidex, I then swapped over to Femara and am finding this much better.

I was not menopausal so I think this makes a big difference to how your body adjusts and copes with the drugs.

There are many studies out there, all recommending hormonal treatment over none at all.

My Onco told me by removing ovaries as well as taking anti hormone medication that we woud be turning off the oestrogen tap.
