Hi Tracy, after having a DCIS in Dec 2013, I had genetic testing in Oct 2014, and tested positive to BRCA2 gene. I made the decision to have a bilateral mastectomy with immediate TRAM flap reconstruction. It is 3 weeks ago today since I had my surgery and I am doing very well and extremely glad I made the choice I did, as the pathology came back with atypical change in both breasts that would have eventually turned into cancer again somewhere down the track. My geneticist thought it would be unlikely that I would test positive because we had very little family history (mother's half sister had breast cancer in her 70's and father's niece died of ovarian cancer, that's all, so he said it was up to me if I wanted the test or not, but like I said, I am very glad I did, as ultimately it has saved my life. You can read my full story on my blog if you like. Happy to answer any questions you may have. All the best and good luck. Louise Macgregor
