Hi I am going into have bialteral mastectomies on wed of next week with immediate tissue expanders,I am hoping everyone can give me their advice now matter how small or large on things to do or take, simple things sometimes make all the difference, I have purchased a lovely kimono that will fit drains out arms and into pockets and a few button up pj's, any other tricks would be greatly apprieciated thanks in advance Narelle xx

Hi Such is Life ... the button up PJ's are a must. Great idea. You might want to talk with your doctor about possible constipation and how to help avoid that. After my mastectomy surgery I was soooooo constipated from all the morphine etc, that they eventually had to give me an enema. You may be able to take something like Coloxyl, Movocol, Lactulose (spelling?) or other 'stool softener' and constipation helper following your surgery - worth asking the question I reckon. Drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit and fibre foods, such as prunes. Good luck with the surgery. Let us know how you get on when you are up to posting another blog. Cheers, Kym :)

Thanks for the advice, yes certainly wouldnt want the rumour to be true, that is that I am full of sh***t lol. No seriously I will keep it in mind I dont need any extra problems that is for sure xx

Sounds like you are pretty organised Narelle - just remember button up clothes to go home in as well. You won't be able to lift your arms for a while!

Hi Narelle Dry shampoo is great if you start to feel a bit icky and unable to wash your hair. You can buy small canister from supermarkets. A good brand is Klorane, though it is a bit expensive - around $12 I think. " Noise-cancelling headphones, if you have them, are good too. All the best with your surgery, we'll be thinking of you! Your own pillow is a must LOL I also had a laptop and my MP3 player, earplugs and eye mask. My daughter made me a little photo album . Good luck with your surgery will keep you in my prayers xx Hilary

Some socks for you tootsens in bed and slippers for out of bed. I prefer crazy slippers as they always cheers me up :) A photo of your family do they're close to you even when not there xx

Hi Narelle, During my recent trip to hospital for neurosurgery, I was so glad to have an eye patch/mask like they have on international flights, which helped to block out light from the nurses stations and adjoining patient. I also found earplugs, or even better listening to my iPhone music via headphones, helped in conjunction with the eyepatch to block out the snores of my male roommate and allowed me to tune out, meditate and get some rest.
