Another milestone achieved

On Thursday morning I picked up my prosthesis.  Well, by ‘picking up’ I actually got brave and wore it home !

My fitter had measured me the previous week and had two forms for me to try on.  One was better for our hot climate but the other, still a light-weight breast form, was a perfect match to the shape and nipple location of my other breast.

The fitter had taken the time to speak with the company and advised me that they do not recommend a ‘contact’ breast form for the first two years as this gives the chest the best possible chance of being as flat as it can be.  This then allows the ‘contact’ prosthesis to fit and adhere correctly.

I was also advised not to wear an underwired bra for some time as the internal scarring needs more time to heal.

So, I lashed out and purchased some pocketed bras by the same company. I can hardly wait until I can wear an underwired bra because I have always worn them, feeling they give me a better shape.  Once my healing is complete I will again try my own underwired bras as I can sew a pocket in.

Having worn the bra and prosthesis all day yesterday I now fully understand why those recommendations were made.  I was comfortable all day and had minimal movement of the bra or prosthesis.

The ‘proper’ bra is has a different construction to ‘normal’ bras, the lower band does not move and the side panels assist with any swelling remaining.  The bra bands do not roll up at all, despite an active day.

Thank you to the BCNA members who gave me advice re the breast forms when I began to research them.  My boob is the Amoena Natura Light 2S (code 390) and the other Energy Light 2U (code 342).  My bra is the Mona Soft Cup as it is a good sturdy 'everyday' bra.

I hope this information assists other ladies to ask the right questions when they are measured for their new boob.

Hope all are well.  Kind regards to all ‘BC sisters’.

Summer J
