Hi Genetton, I have mentioned it to everyone but none of them seem concerned. If I am walking straight and flat it is just a bit of an ache but if I slightly twist my leg I get a searing pain which stops me in my tracks. My hand gets stiff and aches and that is a completely different pain to the leg. I think I will have to make more noise next time at the doctors,

Thanks for your good luck wishes for my appointment with the oncologist.  I'll let you know once I've seen him on Tuesday.

I think we are all experiencing quite severe joint pains, but must say I'm concerned at going off the medication permanently because the alternative is not good for sure.  It has been suggested to me by breast care nurses, etc that I could try the other medications - Femara and Aromasin, though I understand they too have much the same side-effects.  It is stressful having the pain and I've found by stopping on this trial basis, the pain has eased.  I have a 'Pinkie' (breast cancer friend) who was on Arimidex for 5yrs and then allowed to stop.  Now, after 9 years, she has cancer in the other breast and she phoned me to suggest perhaps I should continue to take Arimidex. 

I'm not exactly sure how to write back to you in this block, only seem to know how to reply, so if you don't hear from me, please send a message and then I can reply to let you know what the oncologist has to say.

what is the pain in your knees  and hands like? My hands get quite stiff and ache occasionally but the pain in my right knee is quite different. It is a searing pain behind my knee. When it started it was more in the side but now it has moved to the back and feels like ripping muscle...quite excruciating. In the mornings I am very stiff and take a while to warm up but it is my knee which causes me the most grief. My onc and dr both said "take a nurofen" but that doesn't fix anything. I don't know if this is a side effect of the Arimidex or something else??

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Judi Ann,

I too hope the acupuncture relief continues. I also have joint pain in knees & ankles but hands are used so often so cause me the most stress. I will have to make a decision in Nov as to go off Arimidex or not. Everything I read tells me Arimidex is best but the joint pain stops me doing things I usually do so I guess there is a life style choice to consider as well. Still not sure what to do.

Hi Genetten.  Really good to hear two sessions of acupuncture are giving you night time relief with your hands.  Hope this keeps up for you.  I didn't seem to have problems with my hands while on Arimidex, but it took me all my time to get out of bed in the mornings - painful shoulders, legs, etc.  Since being off Arimidex this is not nearly as severe, but feel sure I'm going to have to go back on something once I see the Oncologist on Tuesday for a 2nd opinion.

i have now had two acupuncture sessions and so far so good. I am getting night time relief with my hands. They are not falling asleep and being dead weights like they were. Mostly I am sleeping through, apart from an occasional hot flush. Now when my hands fall asleep I can wake them up relatively quickly. I can only recommend acupuncture if you have this problem. The neuropathy alos seems to have lessoned-not gone away but a bit better, particularly in my left hand.

How are you all coping?
