And so it starts

Hi all, just got my results from my surgeon this afternoon not all good but not the worst. My tumor in the breast came with good margins but it had spread to two lymph nodes of the five she removed. Now I will see my oncologist and begin chemo, followed by radiation and hormone therapy. She seems quite sure we will win so I am still on top of things.  Naturally I guess we all hope for better news but I will beat this sucker.  I have too much too live for. I want to see my beautiful grandchildren grow and have babies of their own. I want to paint and play my piano and grow my gardenso there is no way it is going to beat me, Kester

  • Thanks.  I guess in the scheme of things what is a few yuck months out of our lives if we can get rid of this beastie. xx

  • Things like this make you feel all the more positive. I know I'm going to be cancer free xxx

  • Was very happy with the clear margins and the rest I'll just grit my teeth and get on with it. xxx

  • Hi  Bevkk, yes we we do have a lot to live  for so am determined to stay positive, thanks for the wishes, xx

  • Hi Kester

i have just been given my pathology results as well. I had a left mastectomy last Wednesday the 8/6. Fortunately my nodes are clear and I'm just waiting to hear what treatment will be needed going forward.

Fear of the unknown is my biggest problem. The operation and recovery wasn't as bad as I expected.  Now to tackle what's to come.

We will overcome this sucker together as we have a lot to live for.

    Sending you love and strength

    Bevkk

  • Clear margins is a great outcome - at least no need for more surgery.

Once you recover from the surgery I guess the yucky stuff (as I call it) begins but at the same time it is the bit that clears any possible leftover cancer cells and gives you a new lease on life...

Rest and accumulate strength and before you know it it will all be behind you.

We are here if and when you need us but do remember - this is just a few yucky months and then comes health normality and normal life.

    You can do it

    ?????????????

  • Know this...this is curable. My niece had 10 nodes positive out of 20 removed and is 14 years cancer free. Yes there is more treatment to come but the odds are in your favour. Take care. Kath x

  • Good on you Kester, take a big breath and start your journey. It's a marathon, and you will last the distance. There are many people here who want to share the journey with you. Good luck. Jane

  • Dear Kester

Sorry you are joining the club (it's not anyone's choice) but welcome and keep up the attitude!!

I had a mastectomy, one lymph node affected (17 removed!) nearly four years ago. Chemo and hormone therapy. It all seems rather a long time ago - mostly.

Still working, travelling, have a new grandson, all good. A few treatment side effects but all manageable - you will be so amazed at what you can manage!!

This site is great for tips and shared experiences, and useful for a rant from time to time.

It will be hard and sometimes unpleasant work, but it will pass. Very best wishes for the road you are on, keep looking ahead!!
