And here I am
2 weeks ago, having breast cancer was the furthermost thing from my mind. I knew that i had some changes to my right breast but I had no reason to believe it was anything other than Fibrocystic dise...
Testicular cancer! lol. Oh how I can relate to that - the information overload and trying to figure out how to filter it all. I had no symptoms at all and only found the lump by accident. Chemo before surgery is usually only given (I think) if the cancer is quite large and they need to reduce it before operating. Your surgeon will soon let you know. I also just wanted them to get it out as soon as possible. I think my surgeon was expecting me to object when he said he wanted to cut it out straight away. I just said 'cut this thing out now!'. Surgery was delayed a week though as it coincided with my daughter's first week of school - and I didn't want to miss that. Surgery was very successful. Then my oncologist offered me two choices for chemo - I chose the longer, tougher one as it gave me slightly better odds of it not returning. And that's where I'm at now - I've had two rounds out of 6 chemo. So a third of the way there.
What to expect from your meeting tomorrow? Your surgeon will either say "this is what we're doing" or he/she may present you with an option. Write down any questions you have beforehand because you will forget most of them when you're in there. Information overload I found. I took a few notes as well. Hopefully you have a kind and understanding surgeon. I really liked mine and had total faith in his decisions and I think that's important.
Afterwards if you have any questions, jump on here and ask away.
Just as a side note - as a mum of two young children I knew I was going to need help and support. I knew my husband was going to be carrying a huge load looking after me and the kids whilst working full time. So I made the choice to make it public knowledge. Some prefer to keep it a private matter. But for me, that was what I needed to do. The support I have received from my friends and work colleagues has been nothing short of amazing. Dinners have been cooked, children looked after, one friend has even paid for a cleaner for six months! I have been very lucky.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. Best of luck tomorrow. Ask lots of questions! xo Sherril
