An actual diagnosis FINALLY!!!!

Hey all my beautiful pink family

With my diagnosis of BC I never thought why me???? instead I thought why not me, everyone seems to have this thing called BC.

BUT This diagnosis I am going Why Me!!!!!

I apologise for being a bit mysterious lately.  I have been waiting for an actual diagnosis for my ALIEN boob as I call it.  I now have a real diagnosis finally after 10 months of every possible test, procedure and fear you can go through...

It seems I have something called "progressive post radiotherapy morphea".  Please don't panic girls who have had radiotherapy cause "This is very very rare".  My rads onco told me yesterday that there has been 54 cases in the whole world.  In her 15+ years she has only ever heard of 2 and guess what I am now number 3.

This thing is not treatable.

The plan is that I will start 60 sessions (just like with radiotherapy) Mon - Fri.  in the hyperbaric chambers at Fremantle Hospital.  I am so very very grateful that we have bought a lil unit in Perth otherwise I live 400klms away which would have made treatment pretty impossible.  I will still have to travel a reasonable distance or catch two trains and walk 15 mins each way 60 times.  To then spend 2 hours in the hyperbaric chamber.  This treatment is not going to get rid of this thing but it will help to ensure me and my skin tissue is as healthy as possible before I then have my surgery to remove the alien plus I will be asking for the other breast to be removed as well for lots of reasons I am sure you can all relate to.

Once I have had my surgery which will consist of double mastectomy and my now new private surgeon is talking it is to be reconstructed with a chest wall flap but he will not consider this surgery until I have had the hyperbaric treatment.

Needless to say I am not in a good place.  I do not know how I am feeling.  I guess I am still in the first stage of grief which is I just feel numb and confused. Look out when I get angry hee hee just joking.

My thoughts are that it is not cancer and hopefully it is not going to kill me so I know I am the lucky one. Lucky in some and unlucky in others.  That is how life goes sometimes.  I am just looking for a lil bit of luck to come my way at the moment as it has been a real shit couple of years.  I bought my first ever Lotto ticket yesterday for Saturday cause I thought my luck has to change sooner or later.

So that is where I am at at the moment with a lot of treatment ahead of me and I know the hyperbaric is going to be a big commitment for me to do but I am going to do it cause that is just what we do isn't it.  We just get on with it. Just got phone call while typing this, my start date is 7th October for an 8.30am start.  Then I go to 9am starts.  My god I am going to have to be up before the rooster crows but at least I am in and I can get started.

I luv u guys and thank you thank you thank you for always being there for me every day.

Big hugs to you all.  Mich xoxoxooxoxoxox

  • What an absolute bugger!  I feel so upset and angry for you - it's not fair. Are the trains and the walking from your apartment in Perth?  Maybe the hospital has patient transport you could check out -  I found out there was a free car pickup here for treatment if needed, so it might be worth checking at your end?

Just write off the mornings until December 7th, Mich - as you say, we just do what is necessary.  I will be thinking of you starting on the 7th October, and as Paula said, lots of books and DVDs will help the 2 hours to pass.  Sometimes it just helps to smash a plate in the sink (an old one) to get it all out.

Having your bestie to visit will be a blessing - have just read Mel's article.  She will be just the tonic you need.

Thinking of you, Mich, and sending lots of love,  Michelle xxx

  • Well what can I say. Firstly a big hug to you. I guess you have a diagnosis which is good.i know the road ahead sounds daunting, but it is doable. I know everyone has a friend.... But I do have a friend who did the hyperbaric thing for six weeks, she said once she got used to it. It was a breeze, she read books and watched movies. Great also you can start soon. We are here for you, as you seem to be for everyone :) Much love to you. Paula. Xxxx
  • Well finally you know.  Life is sooo cruel but we go on.  I will leave this short and sweet as i have just heard my friend is needing my assistance. She has been in Brisbane hospital for 4 weeks and will now be on her until they send her back to Pall care in Rockhampton.  Yes this is the friend who came to the Summit.  Very ill lady.  Best wishes Mich.  I will call you soon.
