Am I Weird Or What!?

I'll start at the beginning!

When I was first diagnosed in March, my surgeon sent me to have a blue nuclear dye injected into my nipple. This dye seeks out the hot spots and shows up exactly where the cancer is in the breast and then in theatre, the surgeon uses a geiger counter to locate it. I had a blue nipple for some time, which I was warned about, and this is now fading.

I am now finding that my areola changes colour intermittently. Yep. That's right! Instead of it being the normal darker brown, it changes to a lighter clay colour and is almost invisible against the normal skin tone of my breast. Then the texture of it goes super leathery. This lasts for about a minute and then it all settles back to normal again.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't think it has anything to do with the radiotherapy as it was doing this before I started treatment.

Just thought I would ask the question before I speak to the breast nurse and she thinks I'm loopy, because I'll bet my bottom dollar the relacitrant areola won't "perform" on cue for her to see what I am on about.

Thanks,

San-Dee

  • I had a blue dye injected but into the cancer during my lumpectomy operation and into the cancer itself.  I haven't noticed any changes to my nipple but then I don't look at it often.  When you find out about yours, please post what it is.  Good luck Karen

  • Hi Sandee I had the dye but unfortunately everything was taken with the mastectomy so I cannot help you. I am sure some of the nice ladies on this forum who have had a lumpectomy may be able to advise you.

    Wishing you well.
