Almost a year

Hi all, hoping all those at what ever part of their adventure is a good one.

Well soon it will count as almost a 'year' that can be counted off.  It is past a year from diagnosis, surgery and last chemo - but not from the point where the docs count as a year.  I must admit it was very emotional booking in for the mammogram and ultrasound.  And yes it does bring up so many emotions in one very short moment - I was in tears on the phone just booking in the appointments.  I then got angry at myself as my emotions have never sat so shallow and been so hard to control.  This is something I am working on through the support of my wonderful amazing friends, dragon boat paddlers and counselor.

The 'Adventure' just keeps on continuing and surprising.

Without being touched with breast cancer I would of never have spent a week with some amazing people from across the country volunteering at the National Dragonboat championships, I would of never made two new friends from the eastern states and I would not be doing my Certificate IV in Photography.

A few challenges are working out what is now important, being close in distance to my niece as we are close already and getting self into a mindset to make future plans.

The good news is that work has improved and less stressful so that helps big time.  I am trying to focus on taking each day as it comes and making short term plans as I get very upset at present when I try and make long term plans.

To top everything off, my best friend in the whole wide world and who looked after me so well last year had a heart attack and now my turn to look after her.  We giggle and cry (giggle more), and say we are both survivors now.

Thank you all and for this site to allow us to vent not in silence but in a way that allows us to be ourselves but also not to public.  No replies are neccessary, just thought I would write to help others and myself by putting it in writing.

This sunday I will be paddling 10km and then off to the Adelaide Masters which are all milestones and one I will celebrate, hopefully with a scotch rather than a tear.

Keep your souls and spirits as nothing can take those.

  • Thanks Robyn - I managed the 10km and we won gold at the Masters Games in Adelaide in the BC 20's dragon boats. Was an amazing experience and a great way to celebrate.  Now planning to save for going to the International BC Participatory Regatta in Florence, Italy in 2018 and if funds allow and the teams goes to Tasmania for the Masters again. Best thing I did was be told about this site, join it and then find the dragon boat girls.

  • Thanks Tracey - hope all went well and trying to be more in the moment.

  • Thanks Rowdy - I try and be positive, some days take more effort than others, but the good days are starting to out weigh the bad.
