Thanks honey for the advice. I see you are awake as well at this time of nite. It seems to happen to me most nites, can't sleep. I try to take the sleeping tablets as a last resort.

Definately tell your onc. team about the shakes  but glad you got the first one down.

 The waiting is the most painful part of the process I believe but once you are on the train it doesn't seem to stop which in some way can be of a relief as well as a burden.

So take everything they offer you and dob those side effects into the onc team so they get their 'what-for' as well.

sorry for the late response, had the first chemo and boy I think I got most of the symptoms in some form of dose. I had nausea start and a real bad headache , about 2 hours after coming home. This all lasted about 5 days, today on day 6 I feel so much better. Looking back, I suppose it wasnt that bad, but just "felt sorry for myself" I suppose. I kept thinking its just like "morning sickness".......

I was quite anxious on the day of chemo, but really it felt like a walk in the park. The nurse I had was fantastic, she explained everything and was quite funny. She was so down to earth it really made me relax with the whole thing. Until coming home, I honestly could have walked up a cliff and jumped. The nauseous and headache was unbearable.

I will have to ask my oncologist tomorrow - as I have been having  the shakes at times.... not sure if this is a side effect as well. I get them in the hands, and feel quite jittery (if that make sense)

Hi Julie I'll be thinking of you on Friday as you have your first chemo. I remember being so anxious then felt it was a bit of an anti-climax as silly as that sounds. Think the waiting for " something to happen" is tough too. I forgot quickeze chewables in the kit. I tried mylanta etc but only the chewy square quickeze wrked for me. I couldn't get them at my chemist but got them at my news agent. It really won't take long till chemo just fits into your schedule like all those other appointments. There's bound to be tears but heaps of laughs as well. Look hard enough even in those challenging days and you will find that special something to laugh about. Take care of yourself. Thanks, I to will be taking on board your advice. I will get a "kit" ready as well. I had my first info session today, and alot was brought up about the anti nauseous tablets. They also strongly say to take them even though you may not feel sick. I also will follow my oncologists advice.

I start my first chemo Friday, so the photo's sound like a great idea. But knowing my luck, I will just cry at them....

I live at Shailer Park and also going to the Mater for treatment, what a coincidence. I have my first chemo this Friday.... "scary"  I' ll be going to chemo every Friday for 3 weeks then a break, then cycle starts again. I see you will be starting on a Thursday, bummer. We could have sync'd our appts, and sat together during chemo. I had the info session today, the information was great and the nurses there are fantastic and funny, You should enjoy (don't know whether  "enjoy"  is a good word to write) the nurses there, they seem great. Will let you know, when I go on Friday. Thats brave on having a port a cath - we actually spoke about them today in the info session. I am going the conventional way - in the hand. I have huge veins in my hands, so hopefully won't have any problems, fingers crossed.

Yes, a good idea. Take a long deserved break, kids do bring allsorts to school. Don't want to catch anything.

Knitting isn't my best atribute, so knitting won't be for me.I get too frustrated and want things finished there and then. No patience for knitting. :(

Anyway, we should meet up for a coffee/water or maybe we might need a "stiff" drink at Garden City when we both feel well after our first chemo session. And compare notes and hair..... haha.

I am a little glad, that things are moving quickly, as I want this whole process over quickly. I hate the thought of being sick etc, but I just want to get better, and start having a "normal" life back.

I think we will be on a "hell" ride. But I was told ,that the ride will be "snakes and ladders" Hopefully more ladders than snakes.

Glad to read that your first appointment is over. It really is the fear of the unknown with chemo. Just remember to speak up and tell your specialist any side effects you are getting as there are so many meds to help you. I really don't like taking tablets anytime but followed my oncologist advice perfectly. Take your anti nausea tablets when prescribed whether you feel you need them or not. They are great at preventing. nausea rather than treating it and nausea really does quickly sneak up on you. I got a little chemo kit ready before my first chemo. It had gastro-stop, coloxyl, Bonjela, carb soda, dark glossy nail polish, paw paw cream, panadol. I've added nilstat ( mouth drops ) biotene mouth wash and a really soft toothbrush. I also bought a few scarves and night caps. I took a little album of photos of my family and friends with me so if I got upset I could look through and remind myself why I was there. I was made to feel so relaxed and wasn't anxious at all after all the sleepless nights worrying. I had chemo 7 yesterday. Next week I will be halfway through my chemo treatment with only 8 more to go and it feels good. The nurses are amazing. I had a Portacath put in due to all my nodes being removed and it's great. I hardly feel it even sleeping on my tummy. I have my bloods taken from there as the veins in my feet collapse all the time and it hurts. Wishing you well. Sending you lots of healing hugs. Mel xxx
