I had DCIS in the right breast, a lumpectomy wasn't an option because of the size of DCIS in relation to breast. I knew from the get go if one was going they were both going. I knew I would worry too much. My aunt got it one side had a mastectomy and radiotherapy to only have it return in the other. My breast surgeon also told me he could augment the left to match the right. I said if you are cutting it open you are taking out the risk. There are aspects I miss but if I was asked to make the decision again my answer would still be the same. I too felt the immense relief once they were gone. Although my surgeon said the decision was mine with the healthy breast he did tell me my decision was definitely not crazy - like friends and family were telling me.
