Hi everyone. Have just joined and found all ur stories really interesting. I had a benign PT removed in April 2010 under the care of the RBH and have recently had my 6 mth check up ultrasound with my regular GP and a new although small lump has been found quite close to where the PT was removed. My GP said its just a fibroadenoma and not to worry and come back in 6 mths but I'm not so sure. Have gone to another GP for a second opinion but they aren't sure either. The doctors seem pretty relaxed about the whole thing and making me feel like a bit of a drama queen. Is there any merit in my concerns or should I just relax and see if there are any changes in this lump over the next 6 mths?

Hi Mikala, considering your past history of Phyllodes I would be requesting a core biopsy if possible of the lump especially since it is close to the site of the original tumor. Phyllodes have a 25% chance of recurring no matter what grade they are (benoign, borderline or malignant) and most tumors are mistaken for Fibroadenomas. Have you got a specialist that you can be referred to?? Better to be cautious in my opinion and there isn't alot of information out there about follow up and treatment options as not much research has been done. Cheers Katie. x

Thanks Katie. I have a referral to go back to royal Brisbane so hopefully it doesn't take too long to see the doctors there. Have been getting pain around the area so I feel like its better to be over cautious then just ignore it for 6 mths.

I can definatley relate, and often I feel like a drama queen going to the doctors ever month or so to get a lump checked. But at the end of the day, it's better to be on the safe side. I'm find that it's just a part of my life now to continuely check myself and get checked if I have to. Trust your instinct, if you feel like it need a second opinion get one. I had lump recently that they found it was nothing, and said it's probably just some scaring from the operations.As for the pain, it's been over a year, and I still feel some pain and discomfort.Take care.Rosie

So I have gone with my gut feeling and I am trying to be referred to a specialist but not having much luck. The RBH won't accept my referral back there as I don't live in their area so they told me to go to Redcliffe hospital. I gained another referral from my GP to see the local breast specialist but there is a 9-11 mth wait. Any suggestions of trusted specialists in the Brisbane area?

Oh ok does she treat public patients as I looked into seeing dr Kate stringer who is also there but she only treats private patients and I unfortunately don't have private health insurance. And yes I live in dbay so just around the corner ;)

Good to hear that your getting the biopsy done... The sooner you know the quicker you can get treatment :-)... Wishing only good news. Take care!

Just a quick update. So saw a specialist today and he suggests I book myself in for a biopsy. Bit of a wait to get in but will know in 3 weeks :)

Thanks ladies. I have asked a friend of a friend who has battled Breast cancer and she suggests the PA as this is where the McGrath foundation is and she says there are wonderful people there with plenty of advice and support. She said I should get my GP to write a really strongly worded referral expressing the urgency as there is family history and hand it in person. She also suggested requesting a referral for a core biopsy and get this done straight away. Ill let you know how I go :)

I wonder if you can just request another ultrasound done for peace of mind. My GP gives me a referral to get ultrasound if any lump is felt... Even if she feels like its a cyst or fibroadema ... I feel your frustration though :-/ ... Keep us in touch .. Rosie
