AC Chemo #2

it's day 12 on my second round of AC chemo.  Unlike last time my nausea meds were on the money.  Thankfully I was able to lie down this time and move around a bit more and even eat a few things here and there.

The main probs I've experienced with this one are:

- massive headaches/migraines.

I think this is related to the pain that I experienced in my head and sinus as the chemo was being administered,  I'm on AC chemo and it felt like I had bags of 10kg  warm molasses on my head and around my sinus as it was going in. Thankfully the nurse slowed it down but I think I left it too long to mention it and the lasting effect has been the headaches.

-  diarrhoea :-(

ahhh yes, the joys of hours and hours in the bathroom..... Not much I can do about it.  Last time the Dr just told me to just take buscopan for th pain and let the body do what it needs to do.  I tried everything from a clear liquid diet to nothing but saladas&water and I think my dr is right.  Just have to keep on keeping on....

- scalp pain/sores/itchiness, possible folliculitis?

im not 100% sure that this isn't related to the first item but my head is currently covered entirely with lumps that are red, hot, sore and itchy with some postules and nastiness.  Could be scalp folliculitis,  im going to see the Dr when I can.

All in all, I have to say, it's been better than the first round.    Here is hoping that the next one is better again..

  • Thanks Deanne, I must admit I've been using this blog as a bit of a diary but definitely have been keeping a note of things as they arise so I know if it's related to anything I'm taking. Definitely making sure to tell my Onc about the side effects. He was most interested in the nausea last time so will work on the others from here. So sorry to hear you had the headaches too. I'm so hoping I can do something about it for next time. I'm trying not to think about everything at the moment. Just keeping the pain in and on my head under control is a full time job right now. Thank you so much for your post. It's good to know your feeling a bit back to normal again. I know it's hard for everyone, side effects or none, but the only way is through so through it we go :-) Best, Janina

  • I'm sorry to hear you are having such an awful time with the chemo effects. I did suffer a little from diarrhea on FEC chemo but only for a day or so each round. Do you keep a diary of your side effects? I found this helped to give an accurate account to the oncologist re side effects and severity, so she could adjust or prescribe appropriate medications. Chemo headaches are just the worst as nothing seems to relieve them and they just last for days. It was only the other day that I stopped and realized that I have not had a headache since recovering from my last chemo 4 months ago. Chemo certainly helps you to appreciate feeling normal again! I know someone else on here developed a scalp infection when they were on chemo. It sounds very nasty and definitely worth a trip to the doctors. Hope you feel better soon. Take care. Deanne xxx
