About to start the next phase!!

Wow sorry to hear that!! I've had bone pain and I find neurofen helps. Yes I'm having the injections and was told to take neurofen every six hours by the nurse just to get relief!! I've only had the bone pain once, my biggest issue is that I keep reacting to the chemo with thrush in my mouth which is fun!!!! I am on antibiotics after every treatment just to keep it at bay. Strange how everyone reacts differently. Don't put up with the pain is the lesson I've learnt, take whatever you need to get through the day and night!! I've just had my 3rd treatment and it does become easier to manage when you know how your body is going to react, the first for me was the hardest, and I had to learn not to just suffer and take stuff!! I hope some of this helps and you feel better soon. Hope your next cycle is kinder to you. Would love to hear how you get on.

Had my first cycle on Monday and whilst haven't had nausea have had the worst bone pain following my nuelasta injection.  I'm now on day 6 and can actually move around without crying.

Are you having these injections?

Hi Sharon, I'm just about to have my 3rd treatment of TAC next week and I remember feeling like you. I think I felt like the world was going to end once treatment started, it doesn't!!!!!!! I find the first 3 or 4 days the worst and only for the nausea. I pretty much feel normal after that, mind you I've had infections that mean I'm pretty much on antibiotics permanently at the moment but as a rule for me nothing has been as bad as my mind thought it would be (and I have an over active imagination) haha, and in regards to the hair I had the same issues as you about it not being my choice but I decided to rock a Mohawk!!!!! My hair is now all gone but it's a means to an end for me so I'm ok with that, and I have some cool bandannas and hats and a great wig, my suggestion is find what works and go with it. Good luck with your first treatment. Would love to hear how you get on!

I'm Sharon (Shaz) diagnosed 14/8/12.  Had lumpectomy - left breast and anxillary clearance.  Margins were not clear so had partial mastectomy.  Starting TAC on Monday 22/10 - feeling very overwhelmed.  The unknown scares the crap out of me.

Going to get my hair cut short tomorrow, had loads of tears about that.   Wish It was "my' choice to cut my hair not this blasted BC.

Hope you are all doing ok and the treatment is being kind to you (my wish for myself)

Hi there ladies,  I am new to this.  I am glad I can relate to some of these stories I have been reading.  I am an older BC patient, in my 50's.  I had a lumpectomy recently on my right breast. So glad my thoughts about this whole journey are the same as everyone else.  Scared about starting chemo. Yes. 6 treatments in all, then doing trial drug and also radiotherapy.  I had a Triple Negative, apparently quite an unusual reading, normally Positive,  so cannot take the antihormonal or HER2 drug.  Hence why I have to do both treatments.  I have already purchased my wig and received a $75.00 rebate from the Cancer council, so great they do that. Have also purchased 2 turbans and one scarf.  Sounds like from what I have read the wigs get pretty hot, it will be summer when I have lost my hair, so looks like I may be wearing hats, and turbans and scarves a lot and wig for special occasions! I love my wig though, it is shorter than my hair now, it is a synthetic wig but looks just as good as human hair.

By the way I have an 18 yr old daughter at Uni, so I hope she can help me a lot as all my family live in Melbourne, I live on the Gold Coast. My girlfriends have all offered to help whenever they can and are a great support.  

But it is good if you can find someone in your own age range to relate to also. Maybe even living somewhere in the same area.

Hi ladies...I was diagnosed on the 12th May 2012.  I'm 35 and I'm married with 2 young children.  It is only now that I have even been able to get on this website and acknowledge what has happened.  After having a mastectomy I pretty much went straght into chemo (I'm not sure what the initials mean but I think TC - Taxotere & Cyclosphomide??) which I finished a few weeks ago.  Other than feeling yuck for the first 5 days or so after each cycle...I was pretty much able to resume normal activities with the kids.  I'm now starting to feel stronger each day...althought the fatigue creeps up at night and I'm tending to go to bed a lot earlier...or fall asleep on the couch!!

Annie...good on you for getting the wig beforehand.  I thought that my hair loss would not affect me as much as it did...and whilst scarfs are great for home or with people I know...I felt pretty self-concious at the shops.  The wig paid for itself then!!

I wish you all the very best...and continue to utilise the variety of services available to you as you need them...they really can help.

Hi ladies....just thought I'd touch base to see how your all doing? I'm in day 10 now of my first cycle of TC, and other than some body aches and pains I've been doing quite well. Walking every day first thing in the mornininb,....I'm finding it is massively helping with not only my physical health, but mental health also. I'm mananging the aches and pains with panadol and ibuprofen which seems to be doing the job for me. What about you guys??? So today I picked up my wig (just in time I think as I expect to start losing my hair over the coming days), and I absolutely love it! It's heaps better than my actual hair so there's definitely a positive in that! Have also ordered some hats and scarves too so looking forward to getting those. I'm so glad (if that's even the right phrase to use!) that there are others around my age to chat with about all this stuff. It's all so crazy!
