- kmakmMemberWell done @CathyMac! The first is the worst in so many ways, chiefly that it's unknown. Fingers crossed it all continues smoothly and the cold cap continues to work. K xox
- EmieMember@CathyMac I washed it twice weekly in tepid water. @kezmusc was bolder! I had it for 4 TC didn’t have any other chemo. Don’t panic if it does shed it’s great you haven’t so far that’s all good news. By the way 6 months later it’s as wild as ever...
- kezmuscMemberYes, that sounds about right. The times are on the machine if you are concerned. As long as it says "ready" it's good to go and cold enough. There were times it was a bit longer beforehand if they were really busy. Just make sure you push it down in the middle every so often to make sure it stays connected to your scalp. Sounds like your doing well if you've made it the three weeks with not much change. :)
xoxoxox - CathyMacMemberThanks for the info @kezmusc. I have one more question. Did you have it on for 1/2 hour before chemo and then 1.5 hrs after chemo on AC then 1/2 hour before and 1 hour after on Paclitaxel?
- kezmuscMemberHey @CathyMac,
That first one's a shocker isn't it? Not knowing what to expect.
You need to use the cold cap for the lot. 4 X AC and 12 X Paclitaxel. I was a bit naughty and washed my hair every day from mid length down really quickly. Then I would stand under the water rub a small amount of conditioner (no shampoo) between my hands and do a quick gently swipe over my scalp so it would wash straight off. I figured it couldn't fall out from the bottom right? I used the viviscal shampoo and conditioner for washing and the ecostore conditioner for under the cold cap. I only ever used a wide tooth afro comb and put it in a loose plait for bed.
Qld summer and working outside on the farm alot, there is no way I could get away with washing it once a week. Gross.

- CathyMacMemberHello all, I hope everyone is having a decent weekend. Tomorrow is round 2 for me on AC chemo. I felt like a ticking time bomb after arriving home from my first round and felt like I was just waiting for the side effects to impact. I was relatively lucky and the only side effects were the all over body pain from the neulasta injection which only lasted 2 days and some tiredness. I have continued to walk each day and have been working from home with a stint at the office on Thursday. I did the cold cap and as yet haven't noticed any difference in hair loss so will do the cold cap again tomorrow. I saw my oncologist on Friday and thought I would just raise the question that it seemed odd that I was only having 10 doses of the Paclitaxel when I had noted that for most people it was 12. Arghhhhhh! He said I'm terribly sorry if I said that I was mistaken it is 12. Means I'll finish all treatment by mid August instead of July.
I have a question re the cold cap for @kezmusc how often did you wash your hair whilst using the cold cap? How many treatments did you have to use the cold cap for?
Big hugs to everyone as I hear off to find my big girl pants again❤️ - arpieMemberThinking of you @CathyMac - It will be like Xmas when you see it for the first time! xx At least you missed all that godawful traffic heading to Sydney for this long weekend!! I'll be heading to Sydney on Monday for my 1st year review on Tues ..... not looking forward to it - and everyone should be heading HOME by then! LOL
Well done on getting out!! You are a superstar!! ;)
Take care, xxx - kitkatbMemberAwww @CathyMac that must be really hard having your son leaving home for Uni. Agree with @kmakm getting out walking twice a day is amazing as we all know it easier said than done. :/ xo
- kmakmMember@CathyMac That is sad, but there's this thing called online shopping...!
I did rather a lot of it when I had chemo. He's going to need all sorts of things for his new place. You can shop the sales, colour co-ordinate and have it delivered straight to his door. You can research the local food joints and compile a list of good ones for him. Think lateral and I reckon you'll feel you'll have helped.
Bloody well done walking twice a day in this heat. Legend!! K xox
