ABC 7.30 report on private cancer treatment

Hi all,

My name is Delia, I am an ICU nurse who had private treatment for early breast cancer in 2007. It was absolutly appaulling, and left me with chronic health problems and thousands of dollers of debt.

After tracking down what would have happened if I had gone public for  treatment, I created the website www.cancerchoice.com.au

The ABC 7.30 report have just agreed to do a story on private cancer treatment, looking at the isssues of overservicing, sub standard service delivery, lack of oncology info structure, trained nurses and a 'health team' approach, and the long consequences for people who have had poor cancer treament.

If any one is interested please contact me on 0429 147 181 or delia.scales@optusnet.com.au.

Please pass this infomation on to any interested parties. The ABC are looking for people who are prepaired to speak out about problems in the private cancer industry, and describe their experiences.

Thank you.

  • Hi Delia

I am sorry you had such a bad experience with your treatment. We are lucky to have a choice in Australia about Private, Private in public ( usually with no out of pocket expenses, or public care. I work in the community not for profit sector ( ex bush nursing) as a midwife/ BCN. I had my treatment privately and was happy to pay as I could choose my team and my place of treatment. Take Care Jo
