A new treatment that may be better than Chemo for Her2+ BC? Using Herceptin and Lapatinib combo

I've just been reading about this new trial - it sounds very much of interest to many with Her2+ BC or about to be diagnosed:

Scientists in Amsterdam Just Destroyed Breast Cancer Tumors in 11 Days Without Chemo

What’s best about this method is that it completely leaves out chemo and surgery, and their temporary side-effects as well, like hair loss, fatigue, and nausea.

Researchers involved 257 women in the study, all with HER2 positive breast cancer. Half of them were the control group, and received only Herceptin, while the other half used the combination of these two drugs (Herceptin & Lapatinib).

The results were as follows: 11% of those women who took the drug combo (Herceptin & Lapatinib) had no cancer cells remaining within two weeks and 17% of cases featured dramatically shrunken tumors.

In comparison to the control group (Herceptin only), they had 0% (none) with no trace of cancer cells and only 3% showed a drop in tumor size.

No doubt, it will be a while before all the efficacy tests are done & it is made available to the public ..... but hopefully, sooner than later, if it is as effective as they claim it is!

Here is the whole article:

Might be worth Keeping an eye on this one, ladies

  • Excellent. Small samplewith good  results but hardly enough to stop chemo. I guess the risk is leaving the her2 cancers sitting in situ whilst you undergo the study.
  • Interesting stuff. Lots of testing still to be done, and no guarantees but there's a lot of movement in this space which is good news.
