The sad reality is you are not alone and this has got to stop. It's crazy, but if I hadn't got diagnosed 6 weeks after my friend she would never have found out that she was not given her full options. We had very similar diagnosis. She saw two other oncologist following her mastectomy and it was confirmed that that there was no reason why she could not have had a recon at the time as mastectomy.
The subject of radiation and being told how it affects reconstruction if needed at a later date is so important. What is the point in with holding this information? I'm baffled. There is such a push to get an early diagnosis, and thankfully for you and I, we have achieved this. But where is the support for women with an early diagnosis of breast cancer. What is the harm in making this information public on breast cancer awareness websites.
Can someone please explain to me why it isn't ok to know about skin sparing/ nipple sparing mastectomy with a breast cancer diagnosis, and the fact that if you have radiation and the cancer returns that it limits your reconstruction options. Why is none of this on the cancer council or bcna website. What am I missing here?
