If you have a job with income insurance attached to your super, hang onto it. Being there may make you miserable, but I can tell you from personal experience that running through your savings before ending up on the dole is worse.
Most insurance kicks in after 90 days, and, honestly, if you want reconstructive surgery as well as the rads (yes, I know, you'd rather have anthrax) you may need it. If you are struggling with work, can you can run down your sick leave and avoid the redundancy before going on unpaid sick leave and accessing your insurance? You may find you get a bit of time to breath and heal.
