5 weeks of hell!!

Its now been nearly 5 months since diagnosis.

Half way threw my chemo treatments, had 3 FEC, and so far 1 Docetaxel.

FEC  was doable,  nausea, loss of taste and extreme tiredness.

I am  1 week into my 1st Doctaxel  treatment... and this is where I  am almosy sure IM NOT GOING BACK!! My oncologist is in BIG trouble, I thought he liked me

This treatment is barbaric. My side effects are:

Lose of taste.. completely, my mouth feels like it is coated with furry lard,a swollen& sore throat, every bone and muscle aches,  Pain like I have NEVER felt ,my ankles feel like they have been sliced off, lowerback pain like I have perm back labour.  loss of eyesight,light headedness, dizziness, have fainted twice in 3 days. Cant eat,but when I do every everything tastes like lard or dripping, leaking eyes and dripping nose., Oh  im just loving this, I wonder what the unlucky peoples prize is?? I would rather go back and have double the amount of FEC than  have all this pain

Goodness me I sound like a huge whinger!!,

A little tip for any one about to embark on this drug, wear some ice gloves when having treatment to stop your nails from blackening and falling out!!

Would love to hear if anyone else is having the same side effects as me

I can eat most of what I normally ate, except eggs, Can't do eggs, smell eggs or even look at them YUCK...

I tend to only eat very small portions, I get full quick, or loose my interest or something and have to make myself eat, no appetite, but not from nausea etc.

They did mine under general anaesthetic.

I think it depends on what your surgeon etc prefers. I wasn't given another option, not that I care.

I think it's normal to be anxious about your first chemo.I was ready to do a runner when I first entered the onc unit. If you are over anxious then you can have a "calm you down pill"-just ask when you arrive. It's the unknown and whether you'll have some allergic reaction.Once you get through the first chemo  you'll probably find you feel surprisingly ok.I even went out for lunch afterwards.I thought it was going to be quite easy until day 3 struck.I lost my appetite,felt abit queasy,mouth felt like it was lined with fur and then aches and pains set in.So just be prepared for days 3 to 6.I called them my doona days. I'd suggest to stock up on tins of vegie soup,dry crackers,lemonade iceblocks and lemon cordial - that's all I could eat.I never threw up though. The Port surgery  is easy and you should be off your face and enjoying it as it is Twighlight surgery so they don't put you out, just juice you up, lol.

For nausea you should do exactly as the Onc. Drs. and Nurses tell you, take everything they give you and stick to the regime as it is prescribed just for your size and height.

I hope you don't get nausea but be prepared for anything I say so grab those drugs, get into your p.js if you wish and lay around or do something that pleases you and is not hard on your body as fatigue is an evil bitch, you don't know she's coming and when you aren't looking and think all is going o.k. BANG she smacks you in the  face with a freight train.

So look after you and let others help if they can.

I had Not pain from my port surgery, none at all.

Andno vomiting from my chemo, a little nausea on the day after my firstchemo, but none since, the anti-nausea meds out there now are amazing (I get IV aloxi before my chemo (this lasts 4 days), IV maxolon, and have tablet and injection maxolon if I need it, Zantac helps the reflux that can feel a bit like nausea or cause nausea as well.

Don't panic and a lot of people these dqays get no vomiting and little if any nausea, with the amazing advances in anti nausea medications.

I had my port inserted 31 March and had my firts chemo (TCH - taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin) on 2nd April.

They give you numbing patches or cream to apply to your port site before chemo and this numbs the areamaking the needle insertion painless.

Mypotr surgery was day surgery, in had it placed, and then home afterwards, and not had any problems with it - my port is my friend ?.

Good Luck and don't worry. WE are all differenct, but if you do get any nausea etc then make sure you tell your treatingteam, becasue there is a whole list of meds they can try, if the first one(s) don't work. Like I said I have had 1 days of mild nausea overmy last 3 cycles.

Tell your team how you fell, sometimes they can really help, and if you don't tell them, they have no way of knowing.
