4th day after FEC looming are Meds necessary?

Feeling Ok. Tomorrow is my 4th day after FEC 100.

I am trying to find out what has happened to folk on their 4th day without meds as I have read that the 4th and 5th days are not good ones. Could someone please share with me what your actual experience was.

Also, did anyone take Pramin as a precautionary measure or only as necessary and what where the side effects. If taken for Nausea when necessary how long did it take to help.

I am planning on going to work tomorrow afternoon, hence all my questions.

I thank you in advance for your contribution. Take care, Ann

  • Hi again Ann, I will let you know how I go with the Taxotere.  I think you are marvellous for trying to work.   I tried too but cant do it.  Anyway, I prefer to be at home away from all the prying eyes.  I am doing ok until someone feels sorry for me then I break down.  Good luck to you. :)

  • Thank you so much for sharing your journey Louisa, it helped me a lot. Unfortunately I did not take the Pramin and went to work and had a terrible 4th day. I now know to take the Pramin before meals, I believe some people need to take it for a couple of days.

I am now considering not trying to work as it is pretty full on don't have time to sit and rest even.

I have 2 FEC100 to go then on to the Taxotare, right now they are like a great big mountain in front of me.

I will be following how you do on the Taxotare treatment and for any tips you may have to pass on.  I will be thinking of you this week regarding the treatment, may it not be as bad as we think. All the best, Ann

  • Hi there.  I have just finished the fec cycles.  the 4th/5th days are awful but bearable.  I am still taking the pramin 3 weeks later as a precautionary measure.  I wake up each morning and sometimes in the night nauseas and feeling like upchucking.  the pramin keeps it in check.  I also have some stemetil if it doesnt work.  have only had to take a couple of times.  I wasnt taking it after the first 4 days initially but the nausea persisted and my chemo nurse told me just to keep it up.  I am onto Taxotare for the next 3 cycles.  starts this week.  bit scary as I have been told that it was worse than FEC.  Lets face it the whole business is a different world to most of us.  My daughter gave me a card which reads "if you are going through hell, keep going" which helps me to just keep  pushing through.   As for working, I thought I would be ok in the last week of each cycle but have been bitterly disappointed to realise I didnt get better each time.  I cant work and I have resigned myself to it now and some days I can barely sweep the floor I am so weak.  Sorry to moan.   Good luck.
