2nd time

Hi I was diagnosed  at 46 stage 4 triple negative breast cancer June 2014 has a mastectomy and 6 months aggressive chemotherapy. Went for my 12 month check up June  2015 and 11 new tumors couldn't get clear margins lymph  node involvement this time . Just completed 7 weeks daily of radiation now another 6 months of aggressive chemo again, haven't had much moral support from a breast care nurse . Think it's harder a second time good luck to you all and you are all in my prayers

  • Hi Madeline,

I too had two bouts of triple negative. Sucks doesn't it?  My first was in 2009, with one node involved and second 2011, no nodes this time. It's hard sometimes not to think why me. In the end once the shock of the second diagnosis was passed I guess I just got on with the chemo again. It all seems like a distant memory now, however that is little comfort to you. I agree with calling McGrath or the cancer council for some support.

We are. All here for you.

  • Hi Madeleine

I was sad to read your bog but am glad that you have reached out - hopefully some ladies who have been where you are will make contact.

I understand your comment re the breast care nurses - they often have no idea how to emotionally support people.  They seem to be mostly admin minded rather than care minded.  Contact the McGrath Foundation direct (you can self-refer) and ask if there is another nurse in your area who may relate to your circumstances.

Failing this, contact the Cancer Council as they have counsellors who would be able to better assist you.  Don't try to battle this alone.

Please do keep in touch - and the very est of wishes - keep fighting

    Hugs

    Summer  :-)

  • Hi Madeleine,

Welcome to the network.  You'll get plenty of support coming on here. I can't imagine what it would be like having to go through chemo again. It must be harder because you already have a good idea how your body will react and take a lot of mental strength.  Stay on here and you'll get support. Sending you a big cyber hug your way.
