2nd cycle - TAXOTERE

Well ladies, 2nd cycle of Taxotere is not treating me kindly, ever since late yesterday arvo I have been aching in my muscles and bones and hence had a really bad nights sleep!

I recall I wasn't to have a bath... was that due to my mastectomy and would I be ok to do so now? I am just having trouble recalling if it was a NO NO due to the chemo or the mastectomy... HELP! I need some relief!

Any other remedies would be greatly appreciated. Panadeine forte and heat packs just are not enough!

I am in a world of pain right now... can't beleive how light I got off first round, but very grateful!

  • have a bath, it will help you feel better. Just don't have it too hot, and only use gentle soap etc.

take whatever you have for the bone/muscle ache, and then talk to your team about preventing the same degree of 'discomfort' (haha, medi-speak) next time.

we don't have a bath at home, but I wanted one so badly (on the same chemo as you) that last saturday night I booked a flash hotel in town, bought some lush bath products, and luxuriated in the 5-star luxury! (Got one of those cheap deals from lastminute.com, only cost 100 bucks.) It was worth every cent.

    go for it!

  • Sheree, that chemo is a bugger of a drug.By day 4 it flattened me and I could barely get out of bed for 3 days.I ached everywhere and had a shocking headache. When I rang the onc.unit they said o just go to your gp---right,like I could even get out the front door.I just took panadiene and hoped it would go away if I stayed under the doona! I improved after 3days and panadiene did help.Keep an eye on your temp though cos it's very hard on your white cells.

Hope you are feeling better tomorrow.

  • I was told not to bath after mastecomy with any additions to the bath water. I asked because I love having baths n we have a spa... Dr said dont add anything just soak i water is ok. No jets on in spa etc...

However I'm one of the lucky few who didnt need to have Chemo so I'm unsure on that one & would take amy's advice n speak to ur Oncologist or something. I really dont like panadine forte I had a bad reaction to it too made my body ache and just made me feel crap... How is your body aching? Pain or just tense muscles. Maybe u need a good massage? Reflexology is great relief. If its due to tension or ur body not adjusting to masectomy. worth looking into to. But for instant relief I cant help u. But hoping some of these ideas help....

  • Hi Sheree,

Don't put up with the pain, call your doctor and let him know the effect it has on your body!  He will sort you out, sleeping pills, different cocktails of pain killers etc.  You are too precious, don't be shy.  You don't get if you don't ask.
