2 year checkup

Hi ladies, yesterday I had my 2 year scans and mammogram. It was quite a painful experience, especially the 'what I like to call' the side shot. It's where my scar is and it's an awkward place. So relieved when the kind lady finished, only for her to return and say she wasn't happy with that shot and would need to do it again. Ouch!!! Then onto the ultrasound and she needed to find a lymph node in my other breast that was spotted earlier. That required a lot of time. Apparently having a lymph node in your breast isn't uncommon, just needs to be monitored along with everything else. I keep saying I am quietly confident that everything will be fine, but inside I'm starting to have that feeling we all get, what if? I won't know the results for 2 weeks and  I'm not losing sleep over it as I figure what will be will be. I have noticed my depression and anxiety are trying to rise to the top again and I just keep pushing them back down. I am still at work and feeling generally well, but just lately feel like I'm treading water. Have put in for some time off in August, that should pick me up. Coping ok on Arimidex, joint pain is manageable. Hot flushes are still happening, I get less of them but they are more intense when they visit me. I have found magnesium is still helping with my restless legs (what a blessing). I have noticed that my curly hair might me straightening out, nearly 18 months post chemo, not real happy with that, love my curls, so easy to manage. Shouldn't complain, happy to have hair at all.  Hope all the ladies out there are doing as best they can, will keep in touch,

Hazel xx

  • Hi Hazel the wait is always bad. I know every time I get a strange pain I begin to panic. I myself am feeling well but I still worry and more emotional about little things. I'm in Hawaii at the moment celebrating my end of active treatment. Life goes on and I think we all struggle at sometime with the changes in our lives and body. When I get home Iam having my new nipple tattoed another milestone. I hope you are well take carexx

  • Hi Paula, they often refer to depression as the 'black dog'. I have to keep trying to keep him out when he comes knocking. I manage that better since BC, I'm much stronger now. Have to always be vigilant. Hugs back to you,

  • Hi Hazel,

I just  had a bone scan today, and yes my anxiety is trying to rear it's ugly head.  I think it is something we all go through whilst waiting for the results.  I like Robyn try not to dwell on it.  As you say it is what it is and we will deal with it when and if it is necessary.  Think we wouldn't be human if we didn't.

    Hugs

  • Thanks Karen, you are right about keeping busy with more pleasant things. I will do my best to do just that, thanks for your wishes,

  • Hi Robyn, you are actually ahead of me, the hospital sent me an appointment a bit too early, I didn't argue. It's not quite a full 2 years yet. The joint pain is not hindering me too much, I take Panadol Osteo for it. Wasn't quite sure if they were making a difference at first, I stopped and learnt that they do help:) My knees are most affected. Once I get moving they are ok, after sitting it takes me a while to get going again. I will miss my curls, I hope I can retain some. I did have wavy hair before BC. It's a bit like a lucky dip, hey? I will stay in touch and let you know my results, all the best,

  • Thanks Chris, I will try to stay busy and stay positive, thanks for your best wishes,

  • Hi Hazel

i was speaking to my counsellor about this very thing last week as my anxiety was going off the rickter scale whilst I waited for my bone scan and ct results. It would appear that most of us experience a level of anxiety when we have check ups. After getting the all clear on Thursday last week, I slept all day Friday and Saturday and half of Sunday. I didn't realise how stressed out I was. I'm not sure there is a way to control that feeling of anxiety except to acknowledge it and try to keep busy with other more pleasant things.  All the very best for your results. Karen xox
