1st expander injection advice please!

Hi first post here.  I have a fun day NOT bloods oncologist to ensure 3rd AC can go ahead tomorrow.  I also have appt at surgeon for first fill in expander I'm terrified this expander has given me a lot of pain how much does fill hurt ? Can I cop out and put numbing patch on? Can I ask for small fill this time? To top it off after fill I'm due at oncologist and her and I just don't get on ( I have a referral after this for new oncologist) feeling very unlike a warrior this morning thanks for reading

  • Thanks Chris after all that it was postponed count too low chemo today so we are trying for fill on 9th xxx

  • Hi there,

i found the filling process ok - does not hurt as it is mostly numb - if you don't like needles - look the other way -

it does feel tight after but start off with a small amount - 50 to 100 mils

i always used to keep a pack of nurofen in my hand bag and take them immediately after the fill to take the edge off

    Hope it goes well

    hugs

    Chris xx

  • Thank you Robyn for answering I'm on my way now so I guess I'll find out lol I'm not use to living in such a state of aniexty goodness my job was so stressful ( I'm currently on income protection) but this onc certainly brings me to a high level of stress rest of team are awesome and my surgeon is lovely so I'll see if surgeon can take fill easy much love

  • Hello and welcome to the online network:):) You have done the right thing joining up here. I have no experience with expanders but I am sure that someone will be along shortly who does.Just grin and bear it with your onc, through your last visit. Its not always easy to get along with our oncologist.I am fortunate that mine is fantastic, but I have a friend that actually changed twice to get one that now suits her. Please stay in touch.Cheers Robyn xox
