1st Chemo
Well first chemo session today, we arrived in perth around 7am so decided to have a cooked breakfast. Whilst sitting in the cafe we looked out of the window ( which overlooks a lane way) to see an old bloke chugging on a large bottle of Emu Export, he then pours some into an empty coffee cup and off he totters happy as Larry, it did leave me wondering if he had the right idea! Then on the E walk to the hospital we walk past a bloke sitting on a bench, but he us only dressed from the waist down ( though thank god he was) he had a huge beard and the biggest moobs I've ever seen! It was all very surreal,I do wonder if perth has a higher percentage of eccentrics than any other place on the planet, it keeps life interesting g , honest to god I love this city! So we arrive at oncology speak to the doc then the nurse, go away , come back in an hour, wee bit more waiting and then I'm in! I'd been feeling apprehensive about starting the chemo and when I walked in to the treatment room I thought " oh shit" I was the youngest one there, everyone's sitting there hooked up, so e looked ill, some looked tired, some looked really well. So the nurse comes along explains what's happening and starts telling me what I need to be careful of and look out for ( all this starts to panic me a wee bit, the thought that something simple can quickly become so serious). Then another nurse comes along and hooks me up, and off we go with chemo! I start talking to the couple on my right and the old bloke on my left, we have a good giggle and I calm down. I get offered tea and biscuits and sandwiches by the lovely volunteer. Swapping stories with everyone I really admire the tenacity and tough as boots mentally of these people and I really hope I meet this with the dignity and strength they showed. So my half hour on the drip is done and I toddle off home ( but first I pop in to David jones to get a pink ribbon nail kit from the opi stand, what's a girl to do I could hear them yelling at me all the way up Murray street begging me to buy them!). So 1week down, 25 to go, stick that in your pipe breast cancer and blow it out yer arse!
