how often to have check up

Question

I have diagnosed mucinous carcinoma in this January, and I had left breast mastectomy and immediate Diep Flap reconstruction 3 weeks ago, last week I went to my breast surgeon for post-surgery check up, he said based on my pathology report the cancer I had is lower grade and lymph node is clear too, so he recommended to have annual check up on right breast, with left breast he said no need to check up at all. I am not sure usually how often we should have check up after initial diagnosed breast cancer, I would thought it will be 3 or 6 month for 1st year? And with reconstructed breast nothing need to be check up?

I haven’t had any reconstruction so I am not sure about check ups there but post a single mastectomy I had three monthly checks then six monthly, then yearly. I still see my oncologist and surgeon once a year (9 years in), my surgeon does my mammograms. I no longer have to but I’m happy to keep the overview. Three monthly is common at first just to make sure everything is settling as it should. Best wishes.&nbsp;

Hi, I had a lumpectomy, high grade cancer cells indicating more likely to return. I had chemo and radium and am taking tamoxifen. I have annual mammogram and ultrasound both pre and post breast cancer. Oncologist didn't suggest having more frequent reviews.

I am 11yrs post early breast cancer diagnosis and I have been told by my oncologist to have a mammogram and ultra sound once a year forever...😀🤪😏

Much the same as @Cyn - my surgeon likes to do a 3D mammogram annually (my remaining breast is apparently almost transparent!) and I am perfectly happy to do so (nearly 10&nbsp;years since diagnosis). I also see my oncologist annually, for anything else! In many cases it’s up&nbsp;to you but scanxiety has given away to happy relief when annual checks come up with nothing at all!&nbsp;

Lyao your surgeon does need to follow standard protocols
Other have stated time frames these are the standard
Do you have a Mcgrath nurse to assist you
If you do not get a satisfactory reply frm the surgeon....see your GP for a referral to another specialist
