Burst into tears as I stepped onto the street leaving the hospital, ten days after going in. Wind and sun on my body for the first time, the noise, the resumption of life. Walked along tears streaming for a bit then turned my face into my husband's arm. What's wrong, he asked, are you all right? I'm OK, it's just a big thing I've done. Tears were dry by the time we reached the car.
