I am a dental nurse and have been for about thousand years.
I would do exactly what your Oncologist says and baby it through.
If you are in no pain they can dress the tooth with a temporary filling material and possibly an antibiotic if required. They can even continue to do this for quite awhile as long as it doesn't flair up and the pain and discomfort doesn't become bad, then you will have no choice but to have it removed.
Your general dentist can do this for you, it will say the expense of seeing the Oral Surgeon just for a dressing.
Good luck and I hope you can get the months out of it you require, but if it does flair up DON'T leave it a couple of days to go back to dentist go immediately your Cancer health has to remain number one.
