Well, you weren't waffling at all. I think all you said is valid and possibly quite right in some instances. I Like your idea of suggesting gently to her how she makes me feel, but I d by think it will do anything. She just at wants to be distant, & she clearly enjoys calling our situation "estranged", even though she is the one who keeps her distance and is never in touch unless it's totally necessary.
