Disappointed in The Beacon's name change
Hi All
It's been a long time since I posted. I've been thinking about this, and watching to see if anyone else commented on this. I don't know if somewhere along the way I've missed something. Was there discussion or consultaion about the name change to Pink Lady? I feel that it's diappointing, and disrespectful to our male members, after all, men do get breast cancer too, And as an organisation, I thought the aim was to be more inclusive, not less.
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts
Lyn

- steplightlyMemberThanks Sister
- SisterMember@steplightly I think it was you who suggested aBreast... I think that suggestion is truly inspired. It works on so many different levels:
1) it's inclusive of gender, age, race, sexual orientation
2) it's strong (I feel the pink lady is a little patronising with connotations of sweet and shutup but that may be just me)
3) it means keeping people informed
4) with it's link to the dragonboat name it has the sense of health and well-being and ownership of that state
5) it's an active name not a passive name.
Anyway, I know that it would be muddying the waters at this stage as the main focus is to protest the change from The Beacon to Pink Lady, but if it comes to suggestions about an alternative, I would definitely vote for that. (@BCNA) - traveltextMember
