Disappointed in The Beacon's name change
Hi All
It's been a long time since I posted. I've been thinking about this, and watching to see if anyone else commented on this. I don't know if somewhere along the way I've missed something. Was there discussion or consultaion about the name change to Pink Lady? I feel that it's diappointing, and disrespectful to our male members, after all, men do get breast cancer too, And as an organisation, I thought the aim was to be more inclusive, not less.
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts

- lrb_03Member@Zoffiel, love the way you think. We may not want the rebranding of the Beacon, but we do need to be able to offer constructive alternatives. Your suggestion goes a long way ☺
Lyn - AnonymousNot applicableGreat ideas @Zoffiel. I’d like to see the pink lady dressed up like that. :)
Has BCNA become so big that they are unable to respond to the needs of the very people they advocate for and provide an online platform for? I have cancelled my Pink Lady/ the Beacon newsletter in protest. - ZoffielMemberI've been having a think.
This could be a marketing opportunity for BCNA that would have national appeal.
I'll take a blind guess that they have already spent a shit load of money prepping for a launch of the new Pink Lady rebranding but there is nothing like a graceful reversal of policy in response to community feedback if you want publicity.
I'll bet that the interest in changing the name of a magazine would be of, meh, interest to the media. Not changing it because the female online contributors got their hackles up in support of their male counterparts would get them interviews with all the national media. It would be a feel good story that could generate tremendous support.
Ive been involved with BCNA for a long, long time. They are genuinely trying to give us a voice and without them this forum would not exist. I'm incredibly grateful for what they do.
The pink lady is a terrific initiative, imagine if 'she' was wearing blue shorts and rainbow socks. - wendy55Memberthanks, I just hope that any letters to her were in fact addressed to christine nolan and not nixon!!
- AfraserMemberChristine Nolan is correct.
- wendy55MemberJust wanted to say I believe that it is christine Nolan who is the ceo not christine Nixon, can someone correct me?
- adeanMemberIt seems a shame the change.when the online network was changed bcna really listened to us and made changes to accomadate and realy kept us informed.this seems different l hope the woman and men who make up the bcna are not being forgotten. Even the friday update seems not the same. I hope bcna is not loosing its roots.
- ZoffielMember@Giovanna_BCNA did reply early on and promised to alert the powers that be that there was discontent in the ranks.
I'm quite sure this thread will be causing some consternation. Change resistance is a 'thing' but it is rare to have this level of consensus when no one has any personal gain to consider. - AnonymousNot applicableThe user and all related content has been deleted.
