Disappointed in The Beacon's name change
Hi All
It's been a long time since I posted. I've been thinking about this, and watching to see if anyone else commented on this. I don't know if somewhere along the way I've missed something. Was there discussion or consultaion about the name change to Pink Lady? I feel that it's diappointing, and disrespectful to our male members, after all, men do get breast cancer too, And as an organisation, I thought the aim was to be more inclusive, not less.
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts

- AfraserMemberSorry, the letter has already gone!
- AllyJayMember@Afraser, please add my name to the list for NO to Pink Lady. @BCNA, please note....

thank for taking time out of your own world to do this on behalf of those who feel so passionately about this. - FlaneuseMemberVery inappropriate change, given Pink Lady Funerals - something we try not to think about too much.
- AfraserMemberAgree entirely with @zoffiel about democratic processes - we are all happy with them if our point of view wins out! Letter has been sent (irrespective of good BCNA response, I felt we should follow through) I will message a copy to everyone who asked to attach their name to it as soon as possible (ie next 24 hours, up to my eyeballs in work!).

Ah, lets have a little faith. There are enough people here who are quite capable of spotting a weighted survey--in fact some of us may even be capable of designing one--to make any effortd to sway the results a potentially risky and embarrassing move.
BCNA has done what we have asked which is to their credit and should be commended. This whole survey initiative has terrific marketing appeal on it's own and there are great opportunities to build their brand by being openly responsive.
I've had no argument with the organisation to this point and think it is a little unfair to be openly suspicious of their motives now. Which doesn't mean no-one will be watching ;)
The thing about democratic processes is that someone is always disappointed. It is, however, the best system we have so we will need to see how things pan out.
- Chester80_MemberHere we were a month so ago, @traveltext and I thinking we were the only ones affronted by the proposed name change of Beacon to Pink Lady without any consultation....how wrong were we.
It is very heartening to follow this thread and finally see the post from @Christine_BCNA-CEO that a survey is to be conducted. Agree with @traveltext that the framing of these questions needs careful consideration so as to not lead respondents to the answer BCNA desire.
I agree that the questions of newsletter branding and completely new organisational branding should be considered independent of each other at this point in time.
However, to state emphatically that the organisational logo and pink lady name will not change over time is disappointing. I appreciate the arguments about brand awareness and cost, but the understanding and needs of the greater Breast cancer community are looking to the future whilst BCNA seems routed in the past.
I would have thought that at some point “State of the Nation” would have placed this on the agenda for some wholesome un-biased discussion and genuine debate. - June1952MemberChristine_BCNA-CEO
Perhaps you can put your response (above) as an Announcement and refer to this posting so newcomers or members who receive contact re the issue can be fully aware of what has happened and why ?

Joannie, not sure that is clear at all. BCNA wouldn't be being inclusive if they changed the newsletter name to Pink Lady.
Just the opposite.
