I have been reading the posts over the whole of the discussion and agree with suggestions and thoughts regarding the Beacon name change. I have greatly admired the clarity of thought and considered responses to this topic. Calling the magazine Pink Lady is non inclusive and does resonate of other things. I am wondering about the title “aBreast”. The magazine provides a lot of information and resources for all who face breast cancer and those who support. It keeps us “aBreast” of research, current treatments, stories and a whole lot more. BCNA is also encompassed in this through the topical and relevant information it provides to us and in keeping the community “aBreast” by raising awareness and keeping breast cancer and all that goes with it to the forefront of community space. I know this word isn’t commonly used. In the Webster Dictionary one of the meanings is
up to a particular standard or level especially of knowledge of recent developments
- tries to keep abreast of [=to stay informed about] the news
