Hi Christina,
Good on you for choosing to commit to helping others, focusing on what you can do. Inspirational.
I too want to do my bit to push MBC research forward, that others might benefit as I am benefiting from those who have gone before. I'm immensely grateful for where we are as a nation, and excited for what is yet to come. Diagnosed with MBC in early January this year, I let my treating oncologist know I was keen to participate in research and trials. Since then through BCNA I have completed a few surveys and am participating in the Optimising Care trial (exercise and nutrition), it has already been helpful. More importantly it helps me to feel I am leaning into my goals. I am fortunate that the side effects of the drugs so far have been manageable (more so than the 10 months of Early Breast Cancer treatment 9 years ago), and I have enough energy to put into life and living well. My oncologist has put my name forward for the Omico trial, and I am hopeful that the genomic testing will identify new drugs that are specific to my tumors. We live in exciting times.
My other goal is to lean into relationships, accept people for who they are and show kindness to anyone I meet. A bit of a stretch on difficult (grumbly) days, but there are very many good days too.
Thanks BCNA,
