Surgeon & Hospital Choices Melbourne

Hi, I am recently diagnosed with DCIS and 75 years old. I live in Melbourne and need to select a Surgeon and Hospital for either a Lumpectomy or mastectomy. Does anyone have experience with Cabrini or Epworth and also with the surgeons Sarah Kemp or Melanie Walker?

  • Hi eir51,

I'm seeing Sarah kemp for DCIS IN SITU(left breast) & LCis in situ(right breast)She is absolutely lovely, explains everything in our language & makes sure you have the right test MRI to diagnose the problem.

Good luck. Interested to hear your views.

      Great news.

Did you have a lumpectomy & nodes taken out?

      Recover well.

Like to hear more updates, radiation & hormone tablets.

Thank you so much for that information. I have decided to go with Cabrini MRI tomorrow and then decisions on surgery. Hope all went well with your surgery and good to know you’re starting to feel better. Keep strong.😊

  • I've recently been diagnosed with early breast cancer and have been seeing Dr Melanie Walker. Have been very happy so far.

  • Hello just read your post and hope that you found a surgeon and have decided to have or are going to have your surgery? Let us know how you are going x.  I am having DMX and reconstruction end of Jan, going private and my breast and plastic surgeon are wonderful. X

Hi, I have had my surgery - I was very lucky as DCIS was in very early stages and I had an all clear result. No need for Radiation or Chemo. Surgeon was fantastic at Epworth Freemason's (Private) in Melbourne. Access through a cut around the areola and nipple spared. Suggested to take Tamoxifen if want to minimise any future risk but I have decided to wait 6 months for Contract Enhanced Mammogram result as the drug has many side effects.  All the best with your DMX and reconstruction. I have a friend that has had same surgery and  she is all clear and super happy with the reconstruction and associated tummy tuck.

  • Unfortunately due to hardship over the last few years I cant choose I have to go to Peter Mac as a medicare billed person for a mastectomy and implant reconstruction,  does anyone have experience going there for their surgery, im so worried about not having control over this
