Sernoma

Hey guys
Tossing up if I should type a message or not!
Totally fed up with the process of reconstruction !!
Sernomas suck !!!!!
  • Hey Jenny
    Next step...... throw something lol!
I will be in for exchange surgery. Expanders go and new implants on the 16th Dec.
Doctor says just to manage it until then. My concern is that it will come back after surgery and I will have to live with it for life  .... sounds dramatic but in my old boobs were full of painful cysts ( were they sernomas?)
Hope you are powering. Thanks for the note pm me if you want 😘
  • Dear @JenniferW, Best wishes for your recon and hope the pesky seroma disappears or quietens down. I have a seroma two year post lumpectomy (not as bothersome as yours) that just seems to roam about. I'm not keen on an aspiration procedure while its not playing up. What is your next step?
  • An occasional spitting of the dummy seems perfectly justifiable. What does your surgeon have to say? As far as I am aware, a seroma differs from a cyst insomuch that it’s not an actual (benign) growth filled with fluid, in a seroma fluid simply fills existing pockets in the body, often causing discomfort by doing so. While most doctors like them to disperse naturally (wouldn’t we all?) lingering ones pose their own possible problems by providing a lovely haven for bacteria (which can’t usually enter a cyst). Your doctor should advise on options if it lingers. Best wishes.
  • Tbh I think I am subject to these as I have always been a cystic person. Had very dense breast material and had "cysts" from puberty !!! Double mastectomy...(5 years clear) lymphedema....cording
Just don't feel as though there will be a finish date and my emotions seem to be getting the best of me just feel so much grief for the process and the discomfort!
  • A fluid build up? Seromas are a pain in the........ I had one for 12 months (don’t panic, that is really unusual) but mercifully I wasn’t doing reconstruction at the same time (remain unreconstructed). It’s hard to know what to do for the best, aspirate or not. Knowing that your body is trying to help you heal may be useful but you just want to find the Off switch!
  • Thanks Mahaica
I just hit the wall with my recon. Have you had the experience with a sernoma?
  • You will feel like that some days try and hang in there, it is a long road ahead. Wishing you all the best.
